Frequently Asked Questions
First, we need to emphasize that the entire recycling process saves energy because it reduces or eliminates the need to produce materials from scratch. To give you an idea, one ton of recycled plastic saves 5,774 kWh of energy, 16.3 barrels of oil, and 22,000 cubic meters of landfill space, according to a study by Stanford University. Furthermore, according to the WWF, plastic recycling saves up to 90% of energy and generates jobs through the establishment of small and medium-sized industries. 100 tons of recycled plastic prevent the extraction of 1 ton of oil.
The general rules for storing semi-finished products are as follows:
-> They should always be stored in a flat position on a suitable support (in the case of billets and tubes) and with the greatest possible surface contact in order to avoid deformation due to their own weight or intrinsic heating.
-> If possible, semi-finished products should be stored in enclosed areas under normal climatic conditions (23°C/50% relative humidity).
-> Storage and handling should be carried out in such a way that the material designations and product numbers (lot number) are clearly recognizable on the semi-finished products and can be preserved. This allows for clear identification and traceability of the products.
If stored correctly, plastics do not pose a fire risk. However, they should not be stored with other combustible substances.
Plastics are organic materials and are therefore combustible. Their combustion or decomposition products can have a toxic or corrosive effect.
The issue of plastic accumulation in the environment and its negative impacts has been increasingly discussed. Improper disposal of plastics can result in pollution of oceans, rivers, and soil, affecting marine and terrestrial wildlife. Furthermore, burning plastics can release toxic gases.
